30 lessons/week: general + specialised French
This session is aimed at students of an intermediate level and will take place over a three week period in May. Film criticism is a great tradition in France where it was born in the 1920s. A whole generation of film makers (Truffaut, Godard, Rivette, Rohmer, Assayas…) went through film criticism before becoming producers.
> For the length of the film festival, the greatest world cultural event, around 20 students will attend the projection of the French films from the various official selections of the Festival (official selection, critics' week, directors' fortnight).
> They will write critical articles on French films to feed a 'criticism blog' for the period of the Festival. They will receive, for each film, a whole documentation (press dossiers, film makers' biographies...)
>The critical approach to a film is crucial to the training of the eye and the sharpening of its evaluation.
> Oral and written expression is central to the understanding of a film, discovery of its complexity and depth, identification of its theme and intention.
> Presentation, debates, the writing of critical blogs all represent a form of knowledge that will favour a sharing of the experience while developing the critical sense.
